Esna is about 485 miles (776 kilometers) south of Cairo and is roughly 50 km south of Luxor and lies on the west bank of the Nile. The temple of Esna,near Luxor dedicated to the god Khnum, his consorts Menhit and Nebtu, their son, Heka, and the goddess Neith. Esna temple held a special place among the holiest temples of ancient Egypt, as it represents one of the main aspects of ancient Egyptian life

Esna was one of the most prestigious cities in Ancient Egyptian civilization, during the Roman and Ptolemaic periods their influence can be strongly noted in the temples around in this area including the Temple of Esna, also known as Temple of Khnum.

The temple was built almost nine metres below ground level. The roof of the hypostyle hall is supported by twenty four columns with beautifully carved and painted floral capitals in a variety of designs
